Sri Lanka take into Lunch 403 for 6 against England on Day 4; lead by 6 runs in 2nd Test

Dinesh Chandimal stages a comeback for Sri Lanka as they get close to let go off the trail

This has been the best first session for the visitors Sri Lanka in the series as they go into Lunch with scoreboard reading 403 for 6. They are now leading by four runs and looking very comfortable. Dinesh Chandimal is reaches his 6th career Test hundred to take Sri Lanka out of the danger. He has been an inspirational this innings, playing despite injury and playing so well. Sri Lanka lost just one wicket in this session when Milinda Siriwardana edged a beauty of a delivery from James Anderson towards second slip fielder Alex Hales. Anderson is now just wicket away from reaching 450 wickets in Tests. He almost got another wicket when Chandimal edged the ball to wicketkeeper Jonny Bairstow. Bairstow dropped the catch, diving towards his left.

Sri Lanka have surprised everyone by staging a comeback of this stature. From being enforced a follow on to producing a batting display this good on Chester-le-street.  The credit goes to Angleo Mathews, Kaushal Silva and especially Dinesh Chandimal for a brilliant display of batting under pressure. Rangana Herath is batting well to lending a helping hand to Chandimal and getting rid of the trail. They have performed reasonably well under pressure.

James Anderson is just one wicket away from his 450th Test wicket. He has taken six wickets in this match so far and 16 in this series. Anderson almost got the wicket of Chandimal when he edged the ball to wicketkkeeper Jonny Bairstow. He hit a boundary off the next delivery to rub salt on Anderson’s wounds.
